Li Hongliang is a renowned Kunqu opera artist specialising in chou (comic) roles. He currently serves as Vice General President of the Jiangsu Province Performing Arts Group and is a recipient of the State Council’s ‘Special Expert Allowance’. During his career, he has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the performing arts in Jiangsu Province; in addition to being appointed as a member of the 11th and 12th CPPCC National Committee of Jiangsu Province, he also serves as Vice Chair of the Jiangsu Theatre Association and Vice President of the Jiangsu Kunqu Research Association.
Li has studied with numerous renowned Kunqu artists including Zhou Chuancang, Fan Jixin, Yao Jisun, Liu Yilong, Wang Shiyao, Zhang Jidie and Zhang Shicong. He has staged a total of 15 one-man shows, earning him a stellar reputation for his unparalleled on-stage agility.
His awards and accolades include the Kunqu Promotion Award co-organised by UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture, the 25th Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre, and winner of the 4th ‘Zijin Culture Medal’. He has held a total of 479 lectures over the course of his career.
