Liu Chiang-Pin

Liu Chiang-Pin was born and raised in Hsinchu city, Taiwan, and graduated from the Chinese Culture University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Suona Performance. Between 1997 and 2006, as a suona player with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, he premiered several suona concertos by famous Taiwanese composers and toured more than thirty countries across Europe, America, Asia and Africa. He is currently the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Hsinchu City Youth Chinese Orchestra and the Hsinchu City Juvenile & Youth Chinese Orchestra. He has led the two ensembles on performing tours in Japan and mainland China and won wide acclaim.


Liu was coached in conducting by Huang Xiaotong, a leading light in China’s conducting circle. In 2010, he was presented an outstanding conductor award by the Mayor of Hsinchu City, and was named one of the Top 100 Artists in Hsinchu. Two years later, he was recognized for his outstanding contribution to arts education in Taiwan. In 2016, he received a Chinese Literary Award for Music from the Chinese Writer’s & Artist’s Association. In recent years, he has organized many international arts events, and is the curator of the Hsinchu Chinese Music Festival between 2011 and 2015 as well as in 2017.


Liu has also been an active figure among professional ensembles in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, having guest-conducted the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Shanxi Song & Dance Theatre National Orchestra, Guangdong National Orchestra, National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan, Chongqing Chinese Orchestra, Kaohsiung City Chinese Orchestra, Henan National Music Orchestra, China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, China National Traditional Orchestra, Tianjin Chinese Orchestra, Zhejiang Chinese Orchestra, Jilin Chinese Orchestra, Baotou Chinese Orchestra and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.
